An automatic kelly valving apparatus (10) for use with oil/gas well drilling platforms provides a kelly valve mechanism (20) mounted for rotational movement. An operator (30) is provided on the valve mechanism (20) for moving the valve mechanism (20) between open flow and closed flow positions with a pressurized hydraulic fluid to power the operator (30). A fluid interface in the form of a collector ring assembly (44) mounted above the kelly valve mechanism (20) supplies the pressurized hydraulic fluid to the operator (30) while the automatic kelly apparatus (10) is spinning. Thus a shutting in of the well can be accomplished even when the kelly apparatus (10) spins by a manual means (40) in the event of an emergency, such as a blowout condition. |
