Production of hot water using heat pump - utilises low grade heat from building ventilation system which is circulated through heating circuit of hot water storage cylinder

The installation consists of a heat pump which recovers heat from a source such as the ventilation system of a building, through a circuit. The upgraded heat is circulated through a primary water circuit which supplies the heating coils of three hot water storage cylinders connected in parallel. Using a 3-way valve the primary circuit also supplies one side of a plate heat exchanger. The secondary side of the domestic hot water system consists of a distribution circuit controlled by automatic return valves and a pumped closed circuit controlled by automatic valves. The control system regulates the installation in three stages. The whole system is arranged to provide domestic hot water at 55 deg. C from a primary low grade source at 14 deg.C.
