Bicycle tyre inflation method - uses self-sealing mass around inner tube to close hole made by air injection needle

The method iffof inflating a bicycle tyre uses a ring shaped sealing mass between the two ends of the inner tube which are inserted one side the other and vulcanised together. When the tyre is in position on a wheel rim, an injection needle is inserted through a hole in the rim and through the inner tube layers and the ring, to enable air to be injected. The mass is self sealing, and closes the hole made by the injection needle. The ring may be round the inside or outside of the tube. The mass may be a synthetic or natural polymer which can be vulcanised and containing a softener. It consists of 100 parts of polymer, up to 75 parts of softener, up to 90 parts of filler, an ageing inhibitor and a vulcanising medium. It may contain 20 parts of softener.
