The cable is produced by extruding a C-shaped length of aluminium tubing and laying several optical fibres in the tubing which is then passed through several dies to close and extrude the tubing to reduce its diameter by 5-10%. Two layers of steel wire are then laid around the tubing, the wire serving as a traction resistance element, with the wires touching one another and the tubing. A copper ribbon is then applied around the wire and covered with a dielectric such as polyethylene and then pref. an armoured covering. The cable is highly flexible, resistant to pressure and is usable in long lengths.
