The shuffling device is for playing cards in a stack and is fitted with a card receptacle, a card pasage and a card laying up outlet. The shuffling device includes a card holding back element positioned behind the card receptacle and which determines the shape and size of the card passage in such a way that the card passage is closed for a part of the cards to be shuffled. The card receptacle, the card passage and the card laying up outlet are positioned relative to each other so that the cards pass them only through gravity.
