The collector transfers the sun's heat to a fluid, circulated through a flexible hose (2), supported on a heat-insulating bed (3) within an outer tubular casing (1) made of a material which is transparent to the sun's radiation. A heat reception surface (4) lies across the top of the bed (3) supporting the fluid hose (2), in thermal communication with the latter. The outer tubular casing (1) may be made self-supporting by incorporating a wire helix in it or by placing a wire helix in contact with its inside face. Alternatively the casing (1) is itself positioned within a further casing (7), with an air gap between them, the further casing (7) being made self-supporting. The heat reception surface (4) pref. comprises a metal band wound around the hose (2) in contact with an aluminium foil on either side of it.
