A wbead tyre and rim assembly in which the engagement zones of the tyre bead on the rim each comprise an axially outer retaining lip (5) for the bead of the tyre, a seat (6) for the bead of the tyre and, immediately adjacent to the seat of the bead, an abutment (8) region which extends radially outwards from the seat for the bead (6) and the tyre comprises a pair of beads each having a substantially extending bead reinforcement (2) inextensible circumferentially and each of the beads, considered in radial section in the inflated state on the rim of the wheel, has an effective dimension (11) measured in the internal radial direction of the assembly from the periphery of the reinforcement (2) such that the bead of the tyre is in contact with the seat of the bead and the abutment (8) prevents the bead of the tyre from having an inward movement, and a small effective dimension (10) measured from the periphery of the annular reinforcement (2) in the axial direction of the assembly, the small effective dimension (10) being less than the difference in radius between the annular reinforcement (2) and the axial end of the abutment (8) so that the bead of the tyre may, after rotating so that the small effective diameter extends radially, pass outwards over the abutment on its seat (6) in order to fit the tyre. <IMAGE> |
