An automatic slack adjuster (10) for maintaining a predetermined running clearance in a brake such as cam actuated brake. The running clearance maintained by the slack adjuster is a function of total lost motion between the force transmitting member (24) and the brake actuating member, or cam (14). The slack adjuster is provided with a mechanism such as a set screw (206) which will selectively variably extend into a bore (202) to vary the effective clearance between bore (202) and a pivot pin (84) thereby varying the lost motion between the yoke (26) and the cam (14) for selectively adjusting the running clearance to be maintained. |
