<p>The proposal for developing a new form of public pay phone is made w.r.t. those telephones which are housed in a cubicle or street kiosk where the kiosk is to be fitted with a loudspeaker protected by a heavy grid. Similarly, the microphone is hidden behind a screen, and the requisite amplifiers are placed into the ceiling of the kiosk or at some other protected place. Only the dialling disk or push button keyboard, together with the coin mechanism is accessable to the user. A volume control knob is provided to set loudspeaker amplification, and another one sets microphone amplification to give best audibility to the distant party. The arrangement reduces the possibilities for vandalism or careless handling by the public, and beyond that, also renders the use of the telephone more convenient, since there is no handset to grip.</p> |
