An actuator for draining containers is esp. applicable to agricultural tankers. A controller regulates the flow from a drain cock according to residual fluid level so as to maintain an constant volumetric flow rate. The actuator has a partic. simple construction. A baffle (6) inside the drain cock (2) outlet aperture varies its flow cross-section according to the vertical position of a float (10) to which it is linked (9). The float height varies with the liquid level (11) in the tank (1). As the fluid level subsides the baffle is actuated so as to increase the flow cross-section. The baffle (6) position is varied by a lever (9) and swivel (7) mechanism attached to the float (10). The baffle is smaller than the drain cock cross-section and hence leaves a residual flow cross-section when fully closed.
