The mechanism is fitted to control the movement of a fold-down furniture flap. The brake mechanism as such is fitted on the furniture body and consists of shoes (1), (1') in which the guide rod (2) is fixed. On the guide rod (2) the brake assembly (3) slides during the fold-down operation of the furniture flap. The sliding brake assembly (3) is connected with the flap by tie element (4). - The brake assembly contains a brake element consisting of a set of vertical elastic strips connected to nut-like element on top and bottom. The bottom element (8) is protruding from the lower end of the brake assembly (3) and is fitted on its radial circumference with serrations. By turning the element (8) while the top element remains stationary, the strips are twisted and a brake action between the strips and the guide rod (2) takes place.(DS)
