A cut off and sealing mechanism for a tubular film wrapper F containing spaced articles including rotary shaft- mounted crimpers 19, 20 with confronting film-engaging faces producing closing and sealing or crimping of the film in the seal area, the crimper 20 being spring-mounted relative to the frame of the machine; one crimper 20 containing a stationary cutting blade 25 at the film-engaging face of the crimper; and the other crimper 19 having a yieldable anvil blade 27 to bear against the edge of the blade 25 and yield under the influence thereof to maintain a predetermined pressure relationship between the blades 25, 27 for cutting of the film. Coil springs 30 urge the blade 27 outwardly of the crimper 19 but roll pins 29 retain the blade 27 in the crimper 19. The pressure exerted by the springs 30 is adjustable by movement of a plug 32. The crimpers 19, 20 are heated electrically by elements 23 and have serrated film-engaging surfaces. Preferably, the sharpened edge of the blade 25 extends slightly spirally of the rotation axis of the shaft 15 of the crimper 20. In a modification, the knife blade is yieldably mounted. <IMAGE> |
