A rotary drum sieve for separating a mixture into two component parts rotates about its approximately horizontal axis, the mixture is fed into the drum at one end, and the first component is extracted through perforations in the drum wall, while a mixture comprising mainly the second component is discharged from the opposite end by an annular array of angularly spaced scoops 14 inside the drum, which lift the mixture and drop it into an inclined chute extending into the drum. The scoops (14) and the chute may be perforated to provide additional separation, improving the efficiency of the separator so that it can be used for awkward mixtures such as raw sewage. Liquid passing through the scoops or chute in this case is returned to the drum. <IMAGE> |
