Fibrous material is strained out of industrial effluent streams using a filter. This has housing contg. screen which separates two outlets, one from the clarified material and the other for the fibre. Liq. is introduced as a jet with conical profile. Screen is also conical and symmetrical in form. Apex of the cone is directed towards the spray nozzle. Screen can also be a truncated core, a rotational ellipsoid or be a cone with concave sides in profile. Filter is of esp. use to clean effluent streams in the cellulose and paper industries. It can also be used to recover the fibre from de-inked recycled waste paper or to separate fibre from water contg. wood bark.
