Protection mechanism for pliers - ensures firm grip with spring loaded pawl and ratchet pivoted on handles

The protection mechanism prevents premature termination of a working operation in a tool. It is used for example in pliers which have lever operated, connected jaws. One lever arm is connected directly to one jaw and the other handle arm is connected by a pivot pin to the other jaw which in turn is pivoted on the first. A spring loaded locking catch (34) engages with ratchet teeth (33a) on a lever (33) which is moved with a pivoted and spring loaded lever (30). The kinetic arrangement of the catch and levers can be adjusted. The protection arrangement is held within the handle lever (21).
