In a method and an apparatus for joining two sheets of plastics materials 2, e.g. high density polyethylene, a plurality of heating elements 14 which are spaced closely together along a line are applied to one side of one of the two sheets and a presser member 20 is utilised to urge the sheets against the heated elements. Two rows of heating elements 14 are mounted on a base 8 urged by a spring 12 against a stop 13 and are heating from an electric heating element 11.
