<p>Sodium is used in refining molten metal, and this system protects the sodium from contact with atmospheric moisture, whilst allowing controlled release, with minimum energy, of the sodium for the refining process. The sodium is contained within an envelope of a solid plastic material, such as polyethylene, a modified hydrocarbon, or a wax. This envelope forms a hermetic seal. The metal which is to be refined may also be contained within the envelope or within the material forming the walls of the envelope.</p> |
