<p>A combination of stitching and use of a thermoplastic adhesive for joining sections of elastic material comprises a cord or tape of elastic enclosed in a fabric hem. Pref. an ethylene polymer or copolymer is used, fused by conduction or ultrasonic or high frequency heating, esp. to form annular elastic waistbands or hems on feminine underclothes, babywear, etc. Thermoplastic adhesive prevents retraction of the free ends of the elastic cores under stress.</p> |
