PURPOSE:To obtain high resolution in an image area of character, symbol, etc., and high gradation in a variable-density image area of photograph or the like, by a method wherein a colorant of single color black is used for black in the character and symbol area, and a plurality of colorants of different densities are used in areas except for the character and symbol area. CONSTITUTION:Trichromatic decomposed image data B, G, R are inputted to frame memories 202-204 to be complementary color converted to Y, M, C. A character and symbol are pattern developed to be stored in memories 206-208. Besides, the data of Y, M, C stored in the memories 202-204 are outputted as parallel data, and are distributed to data of thin ink and thick ink. The data stored in the memories 206-208 are inputted to a logic circuit 223. When C, M, Y are simultaneously not '1', they are outputted as K=0, and data of C, M, Y are sent to shift registers 22A, 22C, 22E via OR gates 214A-214C. Besides, the data which are outputted as K+1 with the logic circuit 223 drive a recording head 221 to print black in an character and symbol area by single color black. |
