PURPOSE:To facilitate the assembly by arranging a stem carrying an optical semiconductor, a cap carried on the stem and a subcap fitted into the cap and through which an optical fiber is priced securely. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting diode (LED) with a ball-tipped optical fiber has two leads 12 and an LED chip 4 is welded in the center of a metal stem 13. The LED chip 4 and the tip of lead wire 12 are connected to a assembled metal stem 1 with a connector wire 5, and a lindrical cap 16 into which a subcap 15 made up of a metal with the ball-tipped fiber 8 pirced securely is welded under pressure at the flange thereon in such a manner that the optical axis of the LED chip 4 matches that of the ball-tipped fiber 8. The subcap 15 is fitted into the cap 16 with an extruded section 18. |
