[Also in Division C3] An aqueous cleaning composition comprises: (a) 1À5-6À5 wt. per cent of an emulsionpolymerized dimethylsiloxane having a viscosity of 350-15,000 cs. at 25‹ C., (b) 0À5-1À5 wt. per cent of an alkali metal silicate, borate, carbonate or phosphate, (c) 20-30 wt. per cent of an abrasive, (d) 0-0À4 wt. per cent of a thickening agent, (e) 0-5 wt. per cent of a nonionic surfactant, and (f) the balance water. Suitable components listed are; (a) polymers containing not more than 5 mol. per cent of the siloxane units of units R 3 SiO 1 / 2 , R 2 SiO, RSiO 3 / 2 and SiO 2 in which R represents a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon group; (b) Na, K and Li metasilicates, tetraborates, phosphates, pyrophosphates, tripolyphosphates and carbonates; (c) silica and diatomaceous earth; (d) methyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, colloidal SiO 2 , bentonite and polyvinylcarboxy polymers; (e) polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactants. In examples compositions are prepared containing (a) emulsion polymerized dimethylsiloxanes of viscosities from 500 to 14,200 cs., (b) sodium metasilicate Œ sodium tripolyphosphate or sodium carbonate, or borax, (c) diatomaceous earth or aluminium oxide, (d) optionally a polyvinylcarboxyl polymer, (e) optionally isooctylphenyl polyoxyethylene alcohol, and (f) water; they are used to clean glass ceramic surfaces. |
