Impregnation by dipping or spraying, with a compound of formula (R1R2C=CR3R4)n, (where R1 is H, carboxyl, or (esp. C1-C10) alkoxycarbonyl group, R2 is H, C1-C10 alkyl, non-, alkyl- or chlor-substituted phenyl, or heterocyclic, esp. alkyl- or aryl-substituted, group, R3 is H or halogen or C1-C10 alkyl group, and R4 is Cl, NC-, HOOC-, H2NCO-, OCN-, R"O-, R'"OOC (R", R"' = C1-C10 alkyl), CH3CO-, CH2=CH.CH2-. -CH2.CH2N(CH3) or R""OOC.CH2- (R"" opt. vinyl substituted C1-C10 alkyl) and n is whole number 1-10,000) and containing 0.1-4% per-compound, and opt. 0-3% cross-linking agent. This treated material is subjected to a temperature of 0- 500 degrees C and a pressure of 0.1-150 atmospheres. The final product is useful for textile fibres and fabrics, paper cloth and sheet, cardboard, single fibres, films and foils.
