Highly concd. H3PO4 and easy-to-filter CaSO40.5H20 were obtained by decompg. the phosphate rock with H3PO4 and H2SO4 in the presence of active SiO2 which reacts easily with HF. Thus, a phosphate rock contg. P2O5 33.7, F 4.0, CaO 48.7, and SiO2 5.2% was fed at 555g/h to a premix chamber. The suspension was forced to the first decompn. chamber, where it was treated with 230g 98% H2SO4/h in the 2nd decompn. chamber. The suspension was cooled in a storage chamber, partially recycled to the premix chamber and partially filtered to obtain H3PO4 with 45.3% P2O5.
