The frame (2) of the item of furniture has an angle-block (3) dovetailed across each internal angle and drilled to receive the clamping bolt (5). The furniture leg (1) has a steel plate (6) embedded in a mortice (7) in its upper end. The steel plate has a tapped hole (8) near its lower end inserted into the mortice until the tapped hole is in line with the horizontal blind hole (9). This provides a positive right-angled fixing for the leg and may be dismantled and reassembled without affecting the squareness of the joint. The steel plate has a swage (6a) which binds on the side of the mortice and aligns the tapped hole and the bolt.
