The system comprises a luminous source (16) in front of a concave mirror (17). The light passes via a set of lenses (18) to a slit (19) and is focussed onto an optical fibre (20). The beam passes through a sample (25) via mirrors (23,24) to an outlet optical fibre (22). This directs the light via a slit (26) onto a grating (27) from which it is, projected and diffracted to be focussed by a lens (28) onto a graduated photographic paper (29). The optical fibres can be inserted into any suitable container to eliminate use of quartz analysis chambers and economise on use of reactive agents and solvents.
