<p>The transmission uses two main differentials (D1,D2), and an auxiliary differential (DA) to allow variable speed control using low power consumption controllers. The input shaft (9) is coupled to one input of the first differential V1, through a speed tripling mechanism to one input of the second differential (D2), and to a low power, variable speed coupling (VE). The variable speed coupling output shaft is coupled to the second input of the first differential, and also via a gear train which reverses the direction of rotation (INV) to the input of the second differential. The output of both differentials is coupled to an output shaft (5) via clutches (E1,E2). An auxiliary variable speed source feeding one side of the auxiliary differential is used to maintain output speed during the changeover.</p> |
