<p>The transmission for a vehicle allows the use of regenerative braking. It has a fluid drive to link the output shaft with a flywheel, or a similar energy storage, and a mechanical gearing between the engine and the output shaft. A summing gearing or differential combines the engine torque with the stored torque, while the hydraulic coupling can be operated independently. The hydraulic coupling can provide different gearing ratios so that the stored energy can be used at any speed, or without the engine torque.</p> |
