The ijector has a body (10) with a space inside it which terminates in a conical valve seat (16). There is a cylindrical injection opening (17) from the valve seat into the engine cylinder. A valve needle (11) within the injector body has a valve face (12) which closes on the seat (16). The needle has a cylindrical projection (13) below this through the injector opening. The body has a thin cylindrical sleeve (19) concentric with the opening projecting below the body into the cylinder. This is heated by the cylinder on the outside and cooled by the fuel on the inside. The resulting distortion shakes free carbon deposits.
