<p>1,211,390. Polyester-ionic copolymer moulding compositions. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 5 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 42305/68. Headings C3G, C3P and C3R. A moulding composition comprises a mixture of (a) a linear saturated polyester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a saturated aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic diol, with (b) from 0À1 to 25% of the total weight of the mixture, of an ionic copolymer of an α-olefin and a mono-, di-, or tri-valent metal salt of an α,#-unsaturated carboxylic acid. The polyester used as component (a) may be poly- (cyclohexane- 1 ,4-dimethylterephthalate), or preferably polyethylene terephthalate optionally containing minor proportions of isophthalic acid, naphthalene-2,6- dicarboxylic acid, adipic acid, neo-pentyl glycol or butane-1,4-diol units. Component (b) may optionally contain units of an α,#-unsaturated carboxylic acid or an ester thereof; graft copolymers may be used, such as that formed by graft polymerizing an α,#-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester on to a polyolefin, then partially or completely hydrolysing the product and reacting the resulting copolymer with an alkali metal hydroxide. The moulding composition may be coated with paraffin wax or other wax. In the examples, the copolymers used were the sodium salts of copolymers of ethylene with acrylic or methacrylic acid.</p> |
