The monitoring system, for circuit boards with components fitted with the aid of a machine has an acousticand/or optical device to display the characteristic data of a component marked by the light spot projected by the machine. The data describing the components is stored on a special magnetic tape synchronised with the tape used for controlling the position of the light spot. An optical display may be alphanumeric. The circuit boards can be checked simply, quickly and reliably.
