The hinge lid package for cigarettes has inclined lower cover edges formed from a part of the front. The side and cover walls can be swivelled for opening and closing round an axis located inside one wall of the box. There is at least one snap closure which locks the lid relative to the body of the package. It is formed from a recess and a tongue formed in the same shape and lying in the same plane. In the case of a hingle lid pack the tongues (366,368) are located in the area of the side walls (312,314).
