The detonator has two or more independent arming devices that have to be disabled in a given sequence before the detonator can be triggered by an acoustic signal transmitted through the water. The first arming device is a safety pin for the arming pin that disables the detonator's triggering pin. The second arming device is actuated by water pressure and prevents the rotor rotating into its ignition position. The third arming device is also actuated by water pressure and prevents the triggering pin moving axially and only allows the rotor to rotate into its ignition position of the second arming device has been actuated..
