<p>The reserve power supply has an evacuated casing (2) fixed by elastic members (11) and containing a flywheel (3). A rotating machine (5) is located in a cylindrical bore (4) in the flywheel. When the main power supply is present, the machine acts as a motor driving the flywheel. When the main supply fails, the machine acts as an ac generator driven by the flywheel and supplies the electronic circuitry in the cabinet. A relay (20) operated via a speed monitor (14) and logic (21) disconnects the ac busbar (17) from the main supply (16) when the speed of the flywheel is increasing. Incorporating the machine insid inside the flywheel makes the reserve supply small and allows it to be realised as a slide-in unit.</p> |
