This is an addn. to 2843879, which described a reactor contg. a molten metal bath and used for the continuous mfr. of a gas contg. mainly CO and H2. Carbonaceous- and oxidising-media are injected into the bath; and the reactor has at least one taphole for a liq. phase, plus a gas exit duct. The reactor can also be swivelled, tilted or rotated. The novelty in the present invention is that the longitudinal cross-section of the reactor is a polygon, and pref. a rectangle inscribed in a circle, but esp. trapezoidal. The gas exit of the reactor is pref. joined by compensation bellows to a stationary exit duct contg. a dust separator. Improvements to the main patent, including improved accessibility for workers to the injectors.
