The converter comprises a body (2) moving along an elongate path and along which magnetic zones (6,8,10) of alternating, opposing magnetisation are arranged. These magnetic zones are associated with at least one magnetic circuit having cores and induction coils. Each magnetic zone (6,8,10) is cylindrical and has two poles (N,S) spaced by a small constant air-gap from the correspondingly concave pole shoe (44-51) of a facing magnetic core (34-41), with an induction coil (24-31) around each core (34-41). The movable body (2) is carried by a sliding shaft (14) with a push-button head (12) at one end allowing it to be depressed manually against the force of a bias spring (16).
