<p>A recess-printing plate is produced by (a) forming an etch resist layer of constant thickness on a plate, (b) producing cells, representing the original copy, in the plate by engraving through the etch resist layer using an electronic engraving machine and (c) enlarging the cells by etching. By coating the plate with the etch resist layer before engraving, filling of the cells with etch resist is avoided so that the depth and cross-section of the cells can be increased by etching. The etching step rounds off the shape of the cells so that ink transfer to the surfaces to be printed is facilitated. Thus, reproductions with the correct contrast are obtd.</p> |
