<p>The stepwise increase of the time delay shift does not take its departure from zero shift but at a point corresponding to the highest possible voice pitch. The summing process which adds partial differences between input and phase shifted signals in order to obtain the signal sum at a given shift value, is interrupted as soon as its value exceeds a pre-given fraction of the speech energy level, in order to commence the procedure again at the next higher time shift value. By leaving out unnecessary processing steps, the searched-for shift value at which the difference of the signals becomes a minimum, is found more quickly. As soon as the sum becomes less than the pregiven fraction of the speech energy at a shift value, each sum is compared with a temporarily stored sum of the preceding cycle. This process is not continued after the shift value reaches a pregiven maximal value.</p> |
