A drive for audio appliances, especially for capstans in cassette audio tape recorders, is intended to be capable of cost-effective production and at the same time to have good running properties. These requirements are satisfied by splitting the drive into assemblies: The shaft and mounting tube (17 + 24) and magnetic circuit and rotor winding (56 + 59). These assemblies can be manufactured economically in large quantities since they can be used for a large number of different appliances. <IMAGE>
