This toothbrush comprises a housing (10) which accommodates the electric motor (18) and at the same time serves as a handle and has a tapering front end (11). The drive from motor (18) to shaft (19) of the brush is designed as a slider crank (20, 21, 22, 23). By switching on a resistor with a switch (25) on the plug (24) of the current supply (15) the intensity of the vibrations of the brush can be reduced. This allows even a novice to massage the gums vigorously, it being possible to avoid bleeding of the gums. <IMAGE>
