[Also in Division B2] An electrically-insulating laminated tape comprises a mica paper sheet saturated with a thermoset resin composition that includes (1) a copolymer having a number-average molecular weight no greater than 20,000, the monomer constituents of which include (a) an acrylic acid ester of a non-tertiary alcohol, and (b) at least one functional acrylic or methacrylic monomer that (i) is copolymerizable with the acrylic acid ester, and (ii) includes a reactive group that remains after copolymerization of the functional monomer with the acrylic acid ester; the functional monomer comprising between 1 and 25 mol. per cent of the copolymer; and (2) a curing agent reacted with the reactive group of the functional monomer whereby the resin composition is cross-linked; and a reinforcing fibrous sheet e.g. glass cloth, and/or a preformed polymeric film e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate. The functional monomer may be acrylic, methacrylic or itaconic acid, acrylamide, methacrylamide, glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate, hydroxy ethyl acrylate or methacrylate, or hydroxy propyl acrylate or methacrylate. A layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive may be applied to one surface.. The resin composition may include (1) a copolymer having a number-average molecular weight no greater than 10,000, the monomeric constituents of which include (a) an acrylic acid ester of a non-tertiary alcohol, and (b) at least one functional monomer selected from acrylic acid or methacrylic acid; the functional monomer comprising between 2 and 10 mol. per cent of the copolymer; and (2) a curing agent e.g. an epoxy resin, reacted with the functional group of the functional monomer whereby the resin composition is cross-linked. |
