For the preparation of novel hydroxypropylamines of the formula (I) <IMAGE> where R<1>, R<2>, R<5> and R<9> are as in Patent Claim 1 and Y is -O- or -CH2-, n is an integer from 0 to 5, m is an integer from 0 to 2 and Ar is the phenyl group, and of therapeutically acceptable acid addition salts of these compounds, a compound of the formula (IV) <IMAGE> is used as a starting compound. The latter is reacted with a compound of the formula (V) <IMAGE> If desired, the resulting isomer mixtures are separated into the pure isomers. Resulting free bases can be converted into their salts. The compounds exhibit a blocking action on beta -receptors and can be employed for the treatment of cardiovascular disorders.
