In order to supply bags (14) onto a nozzle (12) of the bagging machine, the bags (14) are collected one at a time by means of the flange (17) which is provided with a valve inside a shaping tube (107), which is spaced from the nozzle (12) such as to enable the full bag (14) to be removed without displacing the shaping unit (107). The bag (14) is collected at high speed by a pair of continuously moving belts (112, 126) which engage the body of the bag (14) substantially along the entire length of the shaping unit (107) such as to insert the bag onto the nozzle (12) substantially when the flange (17) provided with a valve has left the shaping unit (107). The latter consists of two symmetrical elements, the distance between which is adjustable. These elements are shaped such as to form an oblong inlet in the direction parallel to the flange (17) and an oblong outlet in the direction perpendicular to the flange (17), such as to ensure that the valve opens reliably even when the bags are supplied at high speed. <IMAGE>
