Prepayment dispenser of electrical energy comprising a device for receiving and controlling the means of prepayment and an electric counter (3) stopping the delivery of the current after delivery of a quantity of energy corresponding to the credit inserted. The receiving and monitoring device consists of a device (5) for taking payment of a sum paid out by means of a prepaid card (8) bearing units of monetary value in the form of marks and comprises a read apparatus for reading these marks, as well as a device for cancelling these marks by pulses delivered by a pulse generator (4) associated with the counter (3). Value units can be placed in memory (11) simultaneously with their cancellation. Use for recharging vehicle batteries, in particular of electric vehicles. <IMAGE>
