PURPOSE:To obtain the captioned composite material excellent in heat-insulating and hygroscopic properties and strength by a method wherein a binder melting at lower temperature than the temperature of deformation and change of property of an air-permeable material is mixed with the material and put in a metal mold having air holes and, by pressing in the heat gas, the binder alone is melted and bound. CONSTITUTION:With an air-permeable material formed of a granular or fibrous substance, e.g. pearlite, is mixed evenly a binder melting at lower temperature than the temperature of deformation or change of property of the material, e.g. a pulverulent body of polyethylene and thereby a mixture wherein airing spaces exist among grains of the air-permeable material or among apertures of fibers is made. The mixture thus prepared is filled up in a metal mold provided with air holes, while heating gaseous body, e.g. steam, is pressed into the metal mold through the air holes. The temperature of the heating gaseous body is above the melting temperature of the binder and below the temperature at which the air-permeable material is deformed or property change. Thus, after the air-permeable material is bound, the pressure is released, the material is cooled, and thereby an air-permeable composite material is prepared. |
