The increase in width of the workpiece material on rolling through roll grooves is calculated by converting the pass through a groove of any shape into an equivalent pass of a flat material using the theory of plasticity. - When this is done, the width of the specific profile beta K is then calculated employing the formula beta K = beta-alpha/c in which beta is the width of the theoretical flat pass, and a and c are constants, which depend only on the sequence of the passes concerned and the geometrical shape of the groove. - It is thus possible to draw a straight line graph for a given profile.
