PURPOSE:To manufacture a reproducing stylus of resistance to wear by forming a base metal layer of metal carbide, having reacted with diamond, on the top surface of the base of a diamond-made stylus and by further forming a surface metal layer of the same metal on the base layer. CONSTITUTION:On the electrode-opposing surface of diamond-made stylus base 2 in a fixed shape, one of metals, Ti, W, Mo, etc., is vapor-deposited to a thickness of 50-500Angstrom to form base metal layer 4. Next, the base is heated at 500-1,400 deg.C in reductive or inert gas or under high vacuum for preventing metal layer 4 from being oxidized so as to obtain metal carbide layer 4. Layer 4 is coated with the same metal to a thickness of about 1,000Angstrom by the sputtering method, etc., to form metal layer 5, thereby forming electrode 3. Sputtering is carried out at about 300- 600 deg.C to improve sticking strength between layers 4 and 5. Thus, reproducing stylus 1 can be obtained which has strong bonding strength between electrode 3 and base 2 and is resistive to wear and superior in durability. |
