The connector is made so that the electrical contact elements of both the male and female connector are the same standard component. It consists of an insulating body housing at least one, and usually two, contacts. Each contact consists of a wiper and a connecting outlet. The wiper projects out of the body of the connector through a closing plate in the male connector, but is shrouded by an insulating skirt in the female connector. A leaf spring or spur inside the skirt holds the male and female contacts together. The closures of the connectors clip into place on the connector body. Each connector may be joined with others in a frame to form a connector block.
