Liq. sludges resulting from distn. of dry-cleaning solvents are treated with wood sawdust which has been rendered lipophilic. The sawdust is used as very fine particles. It is rendered hydrophobic by treatment with 0.5-3(1-2)wt.% of, e.g. a quat. ammonium salt, a tert. amine, a (di)amine acetate, or an amine oleate. The sawdust may be sprayed with or immersed in the hydrophobising agent, pref. at room temp. The treatment compsn. may also contain clay and plaster, and esp. consists of 50-90(70)wt.% of activated sawdust, 10-40(20) of clay, and 5-25(10)% of plaster. The ratio by wt. of liq. sludge:treatment compsn. is 0.2-1:1. The clay is pref. rendered lipophilic in the same way as the sawdust. The sludges are solidified and are easily disposed of.
|
