Liq. is fed under pressure to a constant level in a container by an injection pump, and on leaving the pump nozzle entrains gas. The pump outlet is connected to a vertical mixer tube extending to the container base. The gas/liq. mixt. is deflected at its lower exit to emerge transversely of the mixer tube axis, and the ratio of the mixer tube cross-section to the nozzle cross- section is 1.5-12. The upper limit ot this range is reduced as the depth of liq. in the container increases. The device is esp. for the aerobic treatment of contaminated water and provides high oxygenation efficiency when expressed in kg of oxygen delivered per KWH of power consumed.
