<p>The operating lever of a bicycle gear system comprises a number of parts assembled on a screwed spindle, the whole assembly being mounted on the frame of the bicycle. In order to ensure that the precise setting achieved in the factory is not upset before the lever is mounted on the bicycle, a plate (1) and punching tool (10) are utilised. The lever mechanism is assembled in the jig (3) in the correct arrangement. A plastics plate (1) having a hole smaller than the diameter of the screw is punched into position with the tool (10) locking the assembly together temporarily. Prior to mounting on the bicycle frame the plate is removed by pulling sharply at the tab (1b). The lever is then ready for assembly onto the bicycle without loss of setting.</p> |
